Learn more about the importance of breast cancer screenings at http://womenspavilionms.com Transcript hello I am Dr. Caroline Ryan a physician radiologist specializing in breast imaging and I work in partnership with women's pavilion of south Mississippi to review and evaluate the breast imaging studies performed in this office while the thought of being diagnosed with breast cancer is frightening to all of us it is important to realize that with early detection and advances in treatment options the diagnosis of breast cancer is no longer an automatic death sentence if a breast cancer is found when it is small less than a centimeter in size that has not spread to the lymph nodes then the cure rate is greater than 95% however to find these small potentially curable cancers it is essential to participate in screening mammography these potentially curable cancers measuring less than 1/2 inch in size are often too small to be found at clinical breast examination alone we strongly encourage you to participate in annual screening mammography is recommended by a physician at Women's Pavilion we know that early detection saves lives

Dr. Reich - Reasons for Multiple Breast Cancer Screenings

Dr. Reich speaks on how additional screenings reduces the chance for breast cancer to go undetected. Learn more about breast cancer screenings at http://womenspavilionms.com Transcript: Hello. I am Dr. Caroline Reich a physician radiologists specializing in breast imaging. My colleagues work in conjunction with Women’s Pavilion of South Mississippi to review and evaluate the breast imaging studies performed in this office. It is not uncommon for us to ask a patient to come back for additional views or possible evaluation with breast ultrasound. These extra images allow us the opportunity to see focal areas of the breast in greater detail and reduce the likelihood of a small cancer hiding in the tissues. In fact, in 80% of the patients called back for additional imaging the extra pictures clarify the area of the evaluation does not represent breast cancer.

Hologic 3D Mammography

Hologic 3D Mammography

Learn about Hologic 3D Mammography at Women’s Pavilion of South Mississippi. Transcript there's a new tool in the fight against breast cancer it's called hologic 3d mammography 3d mammography is a new kind of breast exam it looks and feels like a regular mammogram only it takes a few seconds longer for each view that's because the x-ray arm swings over your breasts gathering enough extra information to create a three-dimensional image set so now the doctors can see and search through your tissue in one millimeter layers why is this a good thing well a traditional 2d mammogram shows all the breast tissue at a glance that means one feature can hide in the shadow of another so it might look like there's cancer where there isn't any or there could be a tiny cancer we just can't see 3d mammography is different because it shows your tissue in very thin layers almost like turning pages in a book that makes it easier for doctors to see if there's anything to be concerned about there's less chance for a cancer to hide behind overlapping tissue it also means there's less chance your doctor will call you back later for a second look because they can see more clearly now and yet for all the extra clarity of brings your x-ray exposure is only about the same as a traditional mammogram done on film that's well within the safety limits set by the health authorities we can't prevent breast cancer but if we find it early enough we can stop it before it stops you 3d mammography is one more tool to make early detection even earlier
