Annual Exams

WELL-WOMAN VISIT & PHYSICALS

Why Ob-Gyn Exams Matter

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommends that girls have their first gynecologic visit between ages 13 and 15. These early visits are typically educational and non-invasive. Routine screenings like Pap smears and pelvic exams usually begin at age 19 or older, based on individual needs.

What to Expect at Your Annual Exam

An annual Ob-Gyn exam is a comprehensive wellness check that includes screenings, vaccinations, and physical exams tailored to your age and health history.

Key Screenings and Exams

Pap Smear and Pelvic Exam
A Pap smear checks for precancerous changes on the cervix. Your provider may also perform a bimanual exam to assess the health of your uterus and ovaries.

STD Screenings
Depending on your symptoms and sexual history, your provider may recommend urine, blood, swab, or physical tests for various sexually transmitted diseases.

Clinical Breast Exam
A quick, in-office exam where your provider checks for lumps or changes in breast tissue. You’ll also be shown how to perform regular self-exams at home.

Mammography
Recommended based on age and risk, this X-ray imaging test helps detect early signs of breast cancer.

Preventive Vaccinations

Your annual exam may include a review and discussion of any appropriate vaccinations, including HPV, Flu, TDAP, and others.
