REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE FOR ADULTS AND ADOLESCENTS
Why Reproductive Health Matters
Staying informed about your reproductive health empowers you to make confident, proactive decisions about your body and well-being. From managing menstruation to family planning, regular check-ins with a women’s health provider help prevent complications, detect disorders early, and support long-term wellness.
Birth Control Options
Oral Contraceptives
Birth control pills are one of the most commonly used methods. They work by releasing hormones that prevent ovulation, thereby stopping fertilization. These require a prescription and daily use for maximum effectiveness.
Intrauterine Devices (IUDs)
IUDs are long-acting, reversible forms of birth control inserted directly into the uterus. Available in hormonal (progestin) or non-hormonal (copper) forms, they can offer protection for several years depending on the type.
Nexplanon (Implant)
Nexplanon is a small, flexible rod placed under the skin of the upper arm that releases progestin to prevent ovulation. It is a long-acting, reversible method that can provide protection for up to three years.
Birth Control Patch
The patch is a thin, adhesive patch worn on the skin that releases hormones to prevent ovulation. It is typically changed weekly and offers a convenient alternative to daily pills.
Vaginal Ring
The vaginal ring is a small, flexible ring inserted into the vagina that releases hormones to prevent pregnancy. It is worn for three weeks at a time, followed by a one-week break.
Injectable (Depo-Provera)
Depo-Provera is a hormone injection given every three months that prevents ovulation. It is a convenient, longer-acting option for those who prefer not to take a daily or weekly method.
